Talking Heads: Artist Matthew Houlding in conversation with Sara Black
Wednesday 9 May 2007
ProjectBase have developed a partnership with Cornwall College Camborne to collaborate on a series of talks and events as part of the College’s established Spring Series
Matthew Houlding's sculptures offer an escape from the world of consumer culture and excess which we live in. Houlding’s imaginary dream homes and fantastic buildings exist on fantasy islands or are perched on top of monumental towers, yet these meticulously constructed models are made from a wide range of recycled objects from domestic packaging to industrial components, further underlining the irony of the dream home. Houlding grew up in East Africa, an influence which carries through to his work today, and has exhibited in British Art Show 6, East International, New London Kicks (New York), Berlin Art Fair, Victory Park (Leeds Metropolitan University Gallery) & the 12th Mostyn Open
ProjectBase invited Matthew Houlding to make a research visit to Cornwall in May to consider a new commission
