The Paraeducation Department
An ongoing group project about organising and education by Sarah Pierce and Annie Fletcher in various locations:
Witte de With/TENT., Rotterdam 2004
Paraeducation Department Reader, Dublin/Amsterdam 2005-6
The Exchange, Penzance, Cornwall 2007
National Sculpture Factory, Cork 2008
Other independent reading groups include Sarah Pierce's seminar on the MA in Visual Arts Practices (MAVis), Dun Laoighre, If I Can't Dance... in cooperation with De Appel, curated by Frederique Bergholtz and Annie Fletcher, and the Transit reading group in Antwerp
In 2007, to launch the opening of social systems, we invited Curator, Annie Fletcher to facilitate a focused curatorial workshop as part of the programme of activities scheduled for the opening weekend. The workshop was the second event of Locating the Producers, a three-year international research project which explored curatorial methodologies and commissioning processes across art sectors.
The workshop was led by Annie Fletcher under the title of (Para)Education, which Annie has developed over the last few years with Artist, Sarah Pierce. For these events and publications Annie seeks to come up with new ways of enabling alternative models for creative communities, self-organisations and means of exchanging knowledge within the arts sector.
