Event: Alex Hartley in conversation with Tim Smit
Thursday 26 May 2011
5-7pm, The Poly, Falmouth, Free.
In summer 2012, Nowhereisland, a large-scale sculpture formed from an Arctic island, will journey around the south west coast of England.
In 2004 artist Alex Hartley discovered an island which had been revealed from the melting ice of a retreating glacier. This year, he will return to the Arctic to retrieve a portion of that island, which he will sail into international waters and declare a micronation. Nowhereisland will then embark upon an epic 702 mile journey from Weymouth - home to the sailing events of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games - to Bristol, visiting ports and harbours en route.
This event will be a lively and revealing discussion between Alex Hartley and the inspirational Tim Smit, Chief Executive and co-founder of Eden Project. Tim and Alex will talk about some of the issues raised by this project including governance, land ownership and what might be expected of a new nation's citizens.
