Emerging Dragon: architecture and urban development in China now
Jeb Beresford, Architect, Director of SMC Alsop, Shanghai, China
Thursday 7 February 5pm, Free
Cinema @ The Media Centre, Tremough Campus
Jeb Beresford is Director of the Shanghai office of SMC Alsop. Will Alsop is one of the most prominent UK architects. His practice, SMC Alsop, is an international operation guided by the principle that architecture is both vehicle and symbol of social change and renewal.
The philosophy extends from the design of individual buildings to embrace broader principles of urbanism and city development. By abandoning the hegemony of an acceptable style, he has rendered the whole process of architecture one of increasing fluidity and transparency; a new and refreshing position for architecture.
Regina Maria Moller interviewed Jeb last year for regina in cornwall, with a feature on the residential property Jeb has designed which is currently under construction on the Pentire Headland in Newquay
In Shanghai, Jeb has developed the Gao Yang Masterplan (a 240,000sqm development) and Xiamen Hidden Dragon, a sustainable waterfront commercial development.
Other projects he has worked on at SMCAlsop include: Schools for the Future, London; Goldsmiths College, Millennium Square, Greenwich; Harrow on the Hill Masterplan and Birmingham New Street Quarter Masterplan. Prior to joining SMCAlsop, Jeb worked for Gensler in the UK and USA, and Studios Architecture, London and Foster Asia, Hong Kong.
ProjectBase in partnership with University College Falmouth has invited Jeb to talk about the rapid development in China offering comparisons to urban and social renewal in the UK. Lecture supported by ProjectBase, University College Falmouth, Arts Council England South West
