Eloisa Cartonera
Eloisa Cartonera is an artistic and not-for-profit collective founded in 2003 by Javier Barilaro and Washington Cucurto, which evolved directly in response to the political and economic situation in Argentina. Based on the belief that art is a social-cultural process, the collective challenges conventional ways in which individuals, society and culture might interact.
Eloisa Cartonera has transformed The Exchange into a workshop, and will work in residence for the duration of the exhibition with local communities to realise a publishing venture. In the spirit of cultural exchange and collaboration, new Latin American texts have been translated into Cornish dialect, and new texts have been produced by Scavel An Gow, a Cornish writers’ collective, all of which are published and sold as unique books in the workshop.
With thanks to: B&Q Penzance, the Cornwall Cartoneros, Scavel an Gow, and all the people who have collected cardboard.
